Everglades Topo terms of use

These terms are a plain-language first pass for Everglades Topo.

Using Everglades Topo

Everglades Topo is a map and reference tool for viewing elevation and topography overlays for South Florida. It is made for personal, recreational, and educational use — planning hikes and backcountry trips, paddling and airboat outings, wildlife watching, photography, and simply getting to know the landscape. Anyone curious about South Florida's terrain is welcome to use it.

For fun and exploration — use at your own risk

Everglades Topo is provided for general interest, recreation, and entertainment only. The elevation and terrain data can be highly inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, and may be wrong by a wide margin. Do not rely on it for navigation, safety, emergencies, property or boundary decisions, legal questions, or anything else that matters.

By using Everglades Topo you acknowledge and agree that it is provided "as is," with no warranty of accuracy of any kind, that you use it entirely at your own risk, and that — to the maximum extent permitted by law — ELCO and its developers assume no liability for any loss, injury, or damage arising from your use of the app or reliance on its data. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Not a safety or emergency navigation system

Everglades Topo is not an emergency navigation system, rescue system, survey instrument, or substitute for official maps, posted signs, land-manager rules, weather alerts, or your own good judgment.

Do not rely on the app as your only navigation source. Conditions outdoors — in wetlands, marshes, on trails, levees, canals, and public lands — can change quickly. Carry appropriate backup navigation, water, safety gear, and communications.

Elevation and map accuracy

The app's elevation overlays are derived from detailed public elevation data and processed into optimized mobile map assets. We try to make the data useful and readable, but it may be highly inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. We do not guarantee that any elevation, marker, corridor, road, levee, boundary, or high-ground candidate is correct, current, or precise — and it should never be relied on for navigation or safety-critical decisions.

Satellite imagery, base maps, roads, and location services may come from platform or third-party providers and can contain errors or delays.

Location use

If you allow location access, the app can show your position and select nearby map layers. You are responsible for choosing whether location sharing with the device operating system and map provider is appropriate for your situation. See the privacy policy for more details.

Staying safe outdoors

Use the app only when it is safe to do so. Do not interact with the app while driving, boating, operating equipment, crossing roads, walking near traffic, or moving through hazardous terrain unless you can do so safely and legally.

App availability

We may update, change, add, or remove features over time. Everglades Topo is provided as-is, without a guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available in every location.

Data and app assets

Everglades Topo includes bundled map/elevation assets generated from public data sources. Elevation data is derived from public sources published by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), which are in the public domain; we credit USGS as a courtesy. You may use those assets inside the app. You may not extract, redistribute, resell, or repackage app assets except where the underlying source-data license or public-domain status allows it.

Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Everglades Topo and its developers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the app.
